Hamilton City Hamilton is situated in the North Island, and is one of New Zealand's greenest cities. Hamilton is also the largest inland city in New Zealand, with a population of over 100,000 people. Hamilton is a progressive city and is the second fastest growing city in New Zealand.
Hamilton is strategically located on four major highways and has the biggest railway junction in New Zealand, serving the country's two busiest railway lines -- the North Island Main Trunk line and the East Coast Main Trunk line. The city's export markets are serviced by two major ports, at Auckland and Tauranga. The Hamilton International Airport connects to all popular destinations in the country and several in Australia. It is currently being upgraded to provide other international destinations.
While the wealth of the Waikato indisputably comes from its agricultural industry, Hamilton places a strong emphasis on manufacturing. Many world renowned businesses have forged themselves as world leaders from our area, such as NZMP (formally known as Anchor), AgResearch at Ruakura, Gallagher Group and more recently with their ground breaking research into business management, the Waikato Management School from the University of Waikato.
