The benefits of working with a recruitment agency during your job search

Carmel StrangeHave you ever thought of using a recruitment agency to help with your job search? If you are thinking about a career change,  a new role with a different company, or returning to the workforce following a break, it can be difficult to know where to start.

Trawling through the online job listings pages to see if there’s anything that matches your job search criteria might not be the most efficient way of finding your new role.

Maybe it’s time to enlist the services of a recruitment agency to help with your job search. If you’ve heard about recruitment agencies and you still have doubts, I’ve pulled together a few of the benefits of working with a recruitment agency, rather than just searching independently.

It’s generally free.

That’s right, most recruitment agencies do not charge for helping you with your job search. Recruitment agencies are paid by their clients or companies for finding the best person for the role.

At Asset Recruitment we do not charge a fee to job seekers, however, I would always check with other agencies if they charge a fee. The last thing you want is any hidden surprises.

Market knowledge.

They know the current market conditions and can give you advice about current trends and challenges. This includes information about who’s currently hiring, advice about where your skills and experience are positioned, and information around salary expectations.

Established network.

Most recruitment agencies will already have established relationships with companies. Here at Asset Recruitment we’ve been placing candidates in roles for more than 30 years throughout Hamilton and Waikato and have long lasting relationships with many companies. We’ve built these relationships by continually finding the right people for our clients. This means we have a real understanding about their culture and know if you will be the right fit for a company.

Application support.

If you’ve not been on the job market for a while the whole ‘selling yourself’ process may feel a bit daunting. That’s where recruiters can help. We’re experts in this space and can draw on our knowledge to provide you with guidance and support to strengthen your application or help you prepare for an interview. We’re here to support.

Following up with your application.

Hearing nothing after interviewing for a position can be very frustrating after you’ve taken the time to go through the application process and meet with your prospective employer. A good recruitment agency will be proactive with their feedback from both parties, keeping you informed throughout the application process, so you’re not left waiting in the dark.

Access to a variety of roles.

Trawling through the online adverts and job boards such as SEEK and Trade Me does not automatically grant you access to all the available opportunities out there. Some jobs may not be posted via these channels. These include positions that are filled very quickly (such as temporary work) where recruiters rely on their existing candidate pool. Sometimes we’re asked to keep an eye out for individuals with a particular skill set and experience and reach out via our networks rather than posting online. Or we may meet you and just know you’d be an amazing fit for one of our clients and so contact them, even if there’s not a current opening.

Finding the right agency for you.

Recruiters have years of experience placing job seekers in exciting and varied roles. But not all recruitment firms are the same and the reason the successful ones are so successful at placing candidates is because they ensure the right fit.

When researching a recruitment agency to help you find employment it’s important to sign up with a firm that you believe has your best interests at heart. Looking for a new job can be an exciting experience but it will be made all the more enjoyable if you have a good recruitment firm working for you. Make sure you choose a firm that you are happy with and which you believe will find the right position for you. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions. After all, they want your business as much as you need their service.

At Asset Recruitment we recruit within Hamilton and Waikato for a range of temporary, permanent, executive and industrial roles. We love to build relationships with our candidates and could help you get your foot in the door of all sorts of interesting organisations and projects.
